I’ve decided that the time I spend on Bnet can be better spent elsewhere. I just cannot get the pictures of those kids out of my head. I realize that the point of those pictures was to shock Bush supporters to the other side, but all they did for me was force me further right. And that’s a hard task considering. Of course, another poster followed me to tell me that “war is ugly” and “if America wasn’t over there these things wouldn’t be happening”. This person is Canadian and anti-American.
So, war is ugly, sure. I agree with that. But let’s look at those pictures again. These are examples of what the radical, militant Islamics are willing to do to their own people to get attention to their causes. These were not acts of war but of cowardly terrorists. Cowardly, I say, because they target children and women and strike with dirty cars filled with bombs. They hide bombs on the side of the road in the off chance that a Coalition soldier will stumble across them. But mostly it’s the kids that do. Dirty bastards don’t care who they hurt as long as they’re hurting someone.
If America wasn’t involved then these people would still be suffering, but in different ways. They go from bad situations to worse and then back again (have I said that before?). They live in constant terror generated, not just by American forces, but by the insane suicide bombers that infest their country. Will it ever stop for them? But then, if it did stop for them, would that make either side of this issue happy? There’d be no reason for the rest of the world to get involved in our politics and there’d be no reason to claim on the endless search for more oil. The people in that region have been struggling for gods know how long, it didn’t just start with our presence.
I guess it’s ok to kill your own children if there’s American forces in your country. What a wonderful excuse! Not that these fanatics really need an excuse, but we’ll give them one anyway. Give me a break. Killing and maiming children is inexcusable no matter who is doing it. No matter who’s occupying the country. These children didn’t ask to be born into areas where terrrorists are likely to blow them up. They deserve to be able to feel safe to play outside. They deserve to be children.
I’m disgusted, still. I did have respect for these people. Now I’m dripping with contempt for them. There is no middle ground for them. Nothing is sacred and off limits. They are just as bad as the people they claim to oppose.
