CNN.com - Taft vows to stay in office - Aug 19, 2005
…great-grandson of President William Howard Taft is the first Ohio governor charged with or convicted of a crime.
“I will work just as hard as I know how to improve this state and to advance this great state of Ohio,” Taft said Thursday. “I hope that the people of Ohio will understand that this mistake, although serious, was unintentional.”
Taft said he chose not to plead guilty but was taking responsibility, through the no-contest plea, for failing to report 52 gifts worth about $5,800, including 47 golf outings
The Bush administration reacted calmly to Taft’s conviction.
“Governor Taft apologized today, he has paid the fine and said it was a serious mistake, and the president accepts that,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said

I am ashamed to say that I live in Ohio. And Bob Taft is my governor. By now you should realize that I didn’t vote for him because he did such a horrible job the first time he was in office. But since no one called him to the carpet when he was in office the first time, in fact he was re-elected, he figures that he can get away with anything. He is now a convicted criminal in charge of our glorious state ( well, not so glorious since he’s been in charge. It’s quite sad really.) and he has no plans of stepping down. He’s still got a lot more damage- I mean, work- to do.
Some democrats in our state legislature are calling for impeachment. But our state house is overrun with republicans, so that’s not likely to happen. However, they let the public know that any private citizen can begin impeachment proceedings against the governor. It would be nice to see this happen, but I doubt it will. Too many businesses and corporations support this clown (gee, I wonder why). And the majority of the people in this sad, sad state are staunch republicans and will not go against the party of their great leader. That includes the criminal that runs our state government. They listen to what the puppet masters say and believe it.
Here’s a “for instance”. Someone wrote to a local newspaper demanding that Taft step down because he was worse than Clinton…blah, blah,…and why wasn’t the federal government asking for his head? Well, someone wrote in a rebuttal, saying “Taft is not as bad as Clinton because Clinton lied under oath (emphasis mine) and Taft just lied.” Ha, ha, ha. Of course, Bill Clinton was not convicted of a crime. Bob Taft was. Still, I mean, what have we come to that we will excuse crimes by our leaders simply because “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander”?
Of course the Bush administration has said that he apologized and paid his fine so that’s good enough for them. Sure it is. Our President is a liar and a cheat. And Taft handed him this last election (give a hand to Ken Blackwell, our secretary of state, for all of his underhandedness). They’re buddies. They have to stand behind each other.
It’s disgusting and shameful. And I can’t wait until people say “Enough is enough!” and give our state and our country back to the people. We’ve had enough of underhanded, lying, thieving politicians running our states and our country. Haven’t we?
