Dear President Bush,
I realize that your much- needed vacation has been cut short by those damned war protesters and that damned annoying hurricane. I really do empathize. But what the hell took you so long? Why do you profess to want to protect the American people and yet allow them to starve in the streets of an American city? Why do I see my brothers and sisters on television suffering because the National Guard is castrated and the American Red Cross isn’t allowed in to help? Why do you pretend to cry and continually spout political nonsense?
Mr. President, I am far away from the tragedy without access to military jets and helicopters to take me to this disaster site. But I am not without television and for four entire days I sat and watched as my brethren were ignored and neglected by your administration. I am astounded that you didn’t cut short your vacation sooner and that your first concern was not law, order, food, water, and basic supplies to this ravished place, but the prices and supply of gas. I am wondering if Congress can’t put a cap on oil prices and you can concentrate on more important things. Why, Mr. President, did you wait until the rest of America (and for that matter, the world) was joined in outrage at what we were witnessing happen on our soil?
How are you going to protect us in this war on terror when, Mr. President, you cannot get your own people mobilized to help with this natural disaster? How are you going to explain this to the families of the people that died needlessly waiting for you to help? How are you going to prove yourself as a leader after this fiasco, Mr. Bush?
You have proved that you are a puppet in a man’s world and that you cannot act effectively without guidance from the puppet masters. They have failed you, Mr. President, and you in turn have failed the American people. I pray that the American people never forget what has happened this past week . And I pray that you learn to act without the strings.
