Orwell’s Prophecy

1984” has always been one of my favorite books. It scares the holy shit out of me. I think that a government with too much power is nightmarish. I’m terrified of losing my freedoms to “Big Brother”. It seems that my nightmares are coming to life.

In case you haven’t heard by now, GW Bush has admitted to spying on American citizens in the name of the war on terror. He justifies abusing his authority and undermining American confidence by saying that we are safer for it. He agrees that he circumvented the law to meet his own end. No one knows for sure who he was really spying on or why he was really spying on them. He and his supporters say they were simply eavesdropping on suspected terrorists and whoever leaked this information is guilty of treason. I say George W. Bush and anyone who supports his actions are traitors and should be prosecuted as such.

Right now I’m hearing that Bush is defending his actions and will continue to spy on his fellow Americans (continuing to break the law). He believes that we are helping our country by giving up our liberties. I say we’re doing a disrespect to everyone who ever died for those liberties by giving up those liberties. He expects us to sit on our hands and “aw shucks” over his criminal activities. War or no war, we cannot give up what we’ve held so dearly and we cannot allow our elected president to take away our rights.

I see some people are backing Bush’s law-breaking.
“Well, we haven’t been attacked since….”
“Well, I don’t have to worry about being in a sky-scraper….”
“I don’t have anything to hide so I don’t have to worry about anything….”

Of course, we weren’t attacked for 50 years before 9-11 and we didn’t have this idiotic Patriot Act and treasonous president to “save us”. I suppose, the gods could get tired of sky-scrapers and do away with them in a natural way (earthquake, tornado, whatever). And the last one is my personal favorite. You don’t have anything to hide right ow.

Who is to say that after we’ve forfeited our rights and liberties that mundane things like saying “Hey” instead of “Hello” and blowing your nose at the table won’t become markers of your terrorist tendencies? Who is to say that going to the bathroom more than 5 times a day won’t get the NSA, CIA, and FBI charging your home and carting you off to Uzbekistan? These are the kind of things that happen when you give away too much.

It’s become rather taboo to bring up Hitler’s Germany when discussing Bush and his policies, but I feel like I have to- once again. Hitler convinced the people of Germany that he was doing what was best for them and they needed to give up “just a little”. And soon enough he was on a crazed rampage trying to eliminate entire groups of peoples. When the people that elected him found themselves faced with a maniac it became too late to stop him. What have we learned from that? Obviously nothing.

I warned people (on B-net) that the government was watching. They called me a conspiracy theorist. Guess conspiracy theorists are also psychics.
