A note on Bush’s Pro-life stance

I find it downright hilarious that George Bush is saying this

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) — President Bush told abortion opponents Monday that they are pursuing “a noble cause” and making a real difference in the campaign to recruit more Americans to stand on their side.

“This is a cause that appeals to the conscience of our citizens and is rooted in America’s deepest principle,” the president said. “And history tells us that with such a cause we will prevail.”

“You believe, as I do, that every human life has value [except when your loved ones can't afford to keep you on life support in Texas or when you're on death row without DNA evidence convicting you], that the strong have a duty to protect the weak, and that the self-evident truths of the Declaration of Independence apply to everyone, not just to those considered healthy or wanted or convenient,[once again, the Texas futile care Law]” Bush told the abortion foes. ****George Bush do you remember Sun Hudson? Do you even know who Sun Hudson is?****

These principles call us to defend the sick and the dying, persons with disabilities and birth defects, all who are weak and vulnerable, especially unborn children,” the president said.

This guy just makes my stomach turn. Absolute hypocrisy and who is honestly calling him on it? No one outside of blogs like Dailykos. I guess the only time your life means anything to GWB is when

  1. You give him lots of money
  2. You give him lots of love and attention
  3. Or you haven’t been born yet.

If you don’t fall into one of those catagories then you’re basically on your own. As far as “disabilities and birth defects” once again I scream “SUN HUDSON!!”

But something in that Dailykos entry bothers me too. They are upset that GWB is putting his 2¢ into the abortion debate. Ok, yeah, I can agree with that. What I don’t agree with at all is this

I’m just trying to tune in to the logic here of this fetishization of the fetus, this cult of the blastula.

Why is accepting that unborn children are people wrong? Why does it make us members of a cult or somehow crazy?

And this

If life ends when higher brain function ceases then it must begin when higher brain function begins. Not at fertilization.

I find this appalling, especially said by women. Obviously they have never had a wanted child die shortly after birth, or felt a wanted child move inside of them. Obviously they have never had a wanted child. This is the kind of thinking that really, really disgusts me. I’ve already made my point clear in “The ‘A’ Issue“. I would never think to legislate someone else’s personal morality, but I would never have an abortion.

I really want to see more of these pro-choice women become foster parents to the kids that weren’t wanted, but came anyway. I’d like to see all of them, on both sides, do more to help the kids that are here and do need them. Gods, they make me want to vomit.
