And this guy does. I did have this posted a few days ago, but I seem to have deleted it somehow (not surprising coming from me). Anyway, That Liberal Blog had a very interesting analogy about NFL referees and the media.
Just as a referee in a sporting event has to make a call as to who committed a penalty or foul, those in the news media must do the same when deciding what angle to take when doing a news story. Both bring to the table their own personal biases despite the fact that it’s supposed to be their job to be unbiased. Many times this bias shows itself subconsciously.
Sometimes, though, the bias is as obvious as- shall I say it?- the nose on my face. It’s difficult to find the truth through the spin anymore. Just like it’s difficult to believe that the NFL playoffs and, ultimately, the Superbowl aren’t fixed in some way. Oh “Report the facts, respect the truth” how I miss you!
