Clinton: Cover employees — Newsday.com

It comes to light that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sat on the board of Wal-Mart from 1986-91 and was asked if she pushed for employee health care when she was on their payroll. Her response?

“Well, you know, I, that was a long time ago … have to remember,” adding that “obviously I believe every company should” contribute to benefit plans.

Oh for the love of Isis. I’m glad to see the Republicans aren’t the only ones with limited recall. I’m not a big fan of Sen. Clinton and this gives me just another reason not to be.

Coming to her defense, however, when Sen. Clinton was on Wal-Mart’s board Sam Walton was still alive. And they were, honestly, an American company. They valued American made products and sold stock only to their employees. It had yet to be the greedy monster that it is today. It wasn’t until Sam Walton passed that his heirs took over and drove the demon into the ground.

Still, I’m wondering about this.

Company founder Sam Walton was a donor to Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. The Clintons owned between $50,000 and $100,000 in company stock at that time, according to press accounts.

Do they still hold so much stock in a company that Sen. Clinton is presently fighting against (because she is fighting them when she wants to force them to provide decent benefits to their employees). Have they sold their shares in that company? This is something I really want to know.

If Sen. and Mr. Clinton are still holding fast to their Wal-Mart holdings then I have to really question her integrity in everything she says. I guess it doesn’t matter anyway, because I haven’t stopped questioning her.
