Daily Kos: NSA Surveillance

Firstly I’d like to say “Happy Anniversary!” to my DH. We’ve been struggling together for 3 years now. Wow!

Susan G at Daily Kos has a take on the NSA Surveillance program. It’s more like a cheat on what to counter to people who say “What do I have to worry about if I’m not doing anything wrong?”

She mentions that identity theft could become a big problem with so many people from so many agencies having easy access to all sorts of private information: bank statements, credit card numbers, online bills, etc. Anything that you do online makes you vulnerable and it’s not unheard of for even “friendly” government folk to go to the darkside when money is involved. No one can really be trusted.

She say’s

Common sense should tell you that looking for clues to potential criminal activity at the local dump is going to yield less pertinent information far less efficiently than searching the office of a reasonably targeted suspect.

Amen to that, sister. Why waste all of that time, energy, and money looking through piles of trash? There certainly are more efficient means of finding information on potential terrorists (please keep in mind that our government knew 9/11 was going to happen, but did nothing to follow up on their information). Of course, that applies only if they are truthfully looking for terrorists. We don’t know that for certain, now do we? (Many of Bush’s political enemies are now on the “No Fly Watch list”. Is Ted Kennedy really a terrorist?)

She also mentions that it’s ILLEGAL. No warrants= illegal. Why is that so hard to understand? Not only that but she also cites the WaPo article about how the Whitehouse rejected attempts to widen the scope of FISA.(a link I provided previously…wink) That alone makes BushCo look suspicious.

I’ve been doing a pretty good job of converting my family members to the “illegal wiretaps are wrong” catagory- even the ones that fall over themselves for love of Bush. The only one who won’t convert is so hard-headed he would never, ever admit that he was wrong (even though he clearly is in his support for Bush’s policies).
