Peace Mom arrested before speech

Ok, there’s a lot of crap going on about poor Cindy Sheehan and her getting tossed from the House Chamber. “She was unlawfully detained!…What happened to the First Amendment!…They roughed her up!..It’s unfair!”

I’d be all about protesting at the Whitehouse, if I could get away with it (can’t cuz I’m stuck here), but if I broke the rules I’d expect to get the shaft from BushCo.

She was told that t-shirts with slogans weren’t allowed in the Chamber (some reports omit this or simply try to down play it). Any reasonable person would realize that she was probably told to zip up or get out. She refused both.

Schneider said Sheehan had worn a T-shirt with an anti-war slogan to the speech and covered it up until she took her seat. Police warned her that such displays were not allowed, but she did not respond, the spokeswoman said.

Police handcuffed Sheehan and removed her from the gallery before Bush arrived. Sheehan was to be released on her own recognizance, Schneider said.

When was the last time you were treated favorably by ignoring a direct order? And do you honestly think that the officer just said “Ma’am, we don’t allow no slogans on t-shirts here.” and then felt the urge to handcuff her and drag her out? If you believe that then you’re a better citizen than I, because you’ve never had to deal with law enforcement. I know that it didn’t go down like it’s been widely reported.

If she was getting censored because of her anti-war stance, then what’s the deal with Mrs. Young? She was pro-war and Republican yet she got the boot too. Hmmmm, amazing. Guess the cops just couldn’t read. Or maybe they were really just enforcing the rules as they understood them? Curious. That could have been possible too.

Honestly, though, the only reason I’m even mentioning this is because I’m sick of seeing how Cindy Sheehan was manhandled. Good grief, what a crock. I had some respect for her when she was protesting because she lost a son to BushCo policies. I lost respect for her when she aligned herself with Hugo Chavez, just because he’s anti-Bush. That just proves, to me, that she’ll sell her image to anyone that wants her.

I also think this is all a non-issue. She is not important. She has lost all credibility. Leave it alone. If they were throwing her out because of her political message then they would have thrown out (most ) Democrats right along with her. If they were really throwing her out because she was “protesting” then they would have thrown out all of the Dems who were protesting “by applause” during the speech. She knew that they wouldn’t allow her to stay there because of her t-shirt. She knew the rules and broke them anyway. She wanted to get everyone’s ire up about the first amendment, and she succeeded. She knew that she would get thrown out. She knew that the media would be watching for her (they had been tipped off). She got what she wanted. She pulled all the strings.

And all of those that are crying for her fell for it. Good going. Nice thinking for yourselves.
