The House Democrats are asking Paul Hackett to leave the race against Mike DeWine. They think that he’s got a better chance at beating Rep. Jean Schmidt (you know her, she called Murtha a coward) than he does of beating Sherrod Brown.
“This isn’t talking behind the scenes; I’m saying it publicly. … I’m petitioning Paul Hackett to run for Congress,” Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Sunday.
Now I’m in a little bit of a quandry here. I think Paul Hackett will serve Ohio’s best interests in Washington. I think, too, that he will consider what’s best for the entire country when he gets there (there’s no “if” about it). And I think that he will indeed have some influence over the older players there, if only because he’s not afraid to back up his words.
Would the House be a better place for him, though? I know that he would definitely have a better chance at beating Schmidt now that she opened her big mouth. And he would get a lot more backing from the national party members.
It’s getting late and my eyeballs are dry (and what’s up with this bug in my FF?). I don’t care which he chooses. I just want Paul to run and win- somewhere. We desperately need him.
