Well, today I have a much cooler head about this whole port deal. “Cooler” simply meaning I won’t let Ms. Conspiracy-Theorist out. At any rate it seems that Bush is on the outs with his bots. They cannot believe that his highness would do something this asinine and not at least try to bribe them into going along. They are finding him to be quite difficult in his stance on this deal with his buddies and want to take him to task. The rest of us are saying “It’s about damned time!”
Has Bush lost his way politically  or at least his touch?
“In regards to selling American ports to the United Arab Emirates, not just NO  but HELL NO,” conservative Rep. Sue Myrick , R-N.C., wrote Bush in a terse letter on Wednesday that she also posted on her Web site.
No matter that no American port is actually being sold, Bush faces a spreading rebellion among Republicans, Democrats and port-state governors.
“I think somebody dropped the ball. Information should have flowed more freely and more quickly up into the White House. I think it has been mishandled in terms of coming forward with adequate information,” said Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y.
Just sit back and absorb that for a minute. Absorb the rationality that has suddenly hit the Republicans. Bask in the bipartisanship. Enjoy it now because it’s not likely to last.
The Dubai Ports deal “is not a national security issue,” suggested GOP consultant Rich Galen. “It is an issue of this administration having a continuing problem with understanding how these things will play in the public’s mind and not taking steps to set the stage so these things don’t come as a shock and are presented in their worst possible light.”

Now there’s proper Repub understanding of the issues. It’s not that this deal was at all shady it’s that the White House didn’t properly tenderize the bullshit before it was fed to the masses. I’m sure we would have liked it much better with a lot song and dance attached to it (maybe the bots would have, hm?). If they’d run the propaganda machine right we wouldn’t be asking too many questions. Well, at least the Repubs wouldn’t (no one really cares what the looney left says). (Don’t worry, I’m sure that GeorgeDickDon will get his/their minions back in line in time for Sunday’s NASCAR race.)
How are they going to spin the fact that Dubai courts would be under no obligation to keep their company records on U.S. soil (and therefore under U.S. jurisdiction)? Or that they don’t have to have a U.S. citizen on their payroll to deal with the U.S. government, even though it’s routine to require these very things from other countries when they’re controlling our ports? I promised that I wouldn’t let Ms. Conspiracy-Theorist come out to play, however this is a little too dirty to be just making an early play for “Frist in 2008″
