Anyone who stops long enough to read this blog is probably in agreement that this “war” needs to end now. It’s not benefiting Iraqis and it’s certainly not benefiting Americans. The cost in dollars and lives is too high a price to pay for an American oil colony. We know that domestic programs are suffering because of increased military funding- they’ve got to find money somewhere. Now schools are suffering and the feds have to find a way to give back some of their money to help education. Do they do that by cutting funding to an unpopular war? Or even by cutting off illogical payments to Halliburton? Of course not. That would be asinine.

They do it by selling national forests. What better way to send money the way of rural school districts than to sell off forested land? Who the hell needs trees and wild life for education anyway? And if it makes some species extinct? Well, there are sure to be pictures in some of the new text books these schools will be able to buy.

I’m all for funding education. It’s terribly important for these kids to grow with knowledge, competence, and imagination. Gods know we don’t need anymore George Bushs running the country. However, I don’t think selling off our land’s heritage and beauty to the highest bidder is going to do it. I think perhaps we should bring our federal tax money home and use that to fund education (and aid in any future natural disasters that could befall any area of the country at any time while this ridiculous war is going on). I know that if I would have to choose between a need of my children and a want of myself, I’d do without in a heartbeat. That’s exactly how the federal government (and Halliburton) needs to think about this situation. If our children are suffering, then stop this military spending and aid our own kids. But then GW would have broken promise to those that really matter to him- the corporations making the real money in Iraq.
