Defending American values from a President Run Amok. That’s the title of Glenn Greewald’s up-coming book.
If you’ve ever read Mr.Greenwald’s blog you know how well written, articulate, and passionate he is about the President’s criminal activities. If you’ve never read it, then you need to take a couple of hours and go do that now, because he can convince Hawaiians to buy igloos[1].
At its core, this scandal is not and has never been about the scope of eavesdropping powers which the Government ought to have. It is much more significant than that. We face a genuine and profound crisis as a country because we have a President who has continuously exploited the threat of terrorism and engaged in rank fear-mongering in order to expressly claim the power to act without any checks or limits at all — including, literally, the power to break the law. And he has been exercising that law-breaking power aggressively and enthusiastically in numerous ways, all of which are radically changing our national political character and the system of government that we have had since our founding.
I’m glad that he’s taking his arguments off the internet and putting them into hardback. This will bring the argument back to the front of the political stage and, hopefully, engage people that have brushed this issue aside/just didn’t care. I’m sure we’ll see him on t.v. more. Hopefully we’ll see him on the bestseller lists too. I’d love to see the wingers trash it, because then he’d sell more books and hopefully convert a good portion of swing voters to our side. I will definitely be buying his book.
I just hope he doesn’t go off the deep end like Kos seemed to do after his book. I really like to read what Glenn has to say and I don’t want any of that “Think like this or drop dead” crap coming from him when the dollars start rolling in.
Congratulations, Glenn. I hope you do well.
