You know, I spent a lot of time on my other blog (location not important) building up credibility and contacts. Ok, so I’m not the most famous blogger in blogland, but I had enough support that I was happy. I even had some folks sending me stuff for me to showcase for them (because they trusted me to send others their way). But it seems that some fucking people don’t give a damned about all of that. Some fucking people decide that they want to help themselves to shit on my blog and not give me credit (or even “contributors” credit). And that fucking pisses me off. So, I have to give a goddamned lesson in manners. I don’t like that either.
Here’s the deal-i-o. If I use something from someone else’s blog (say write an article based on something they wrote, or highlight a slide show that they’ve featured themselves) I give full credit to the place where I got my shit (i.e. “Hot or Not” was because of Nikki pointing me to that wench). On my other blog I call it a “hat tip” or something very similar and include a link to the originating blog. When I use a song or slideshow I provide a link to the artist’s site. When I use a theme as a learning tool I give credit where credit is due (see “Credits” page). I don’t take all the credit for myself. That’s just wrong, as far as I’m concerned. If it’s not my originating thought then I’m not going to try to pass it off as such.
Twice I’ve read a certain blog[1] and have seen my shit posted there. This particular blogger even sent me an email thanking me, but the bitch didn’t credit me on her page. Now, I used to read this particular person on a regular basis. I even had her linked. Not anymore. Obviously she thinks enough of my stuff to help herself, but doesn’t think enough to let others see where she got it. Oh, and comments pointing her readers to my spot have been deleted. That rubs my fucking ass in the most severe way. I’m not looking to boost my technorati ranking, mind you, I’d just like fucking credit for my work.
So, please, if you run across something you’d like to use on your own site, give credit where credit is due. It’s just common courtesy and will probably gain you a friend/reader. If you don’t? Well, I guess that just makes you a fucking idiot assed tool.
That is all.
[1] No, this has nothing to do with anyone that reads/comments on this blog. And, no, I won’t provide a link. This is a vent and that’s all it is. Thanks.
