Money doesn’t equal class. K?

I was having a conversation recently about people bragging about how much money they make. I know I did a post on this a while back (Awaiting, dear, you remember don’t you?), but it went into the abyss with my old blog. I did do one recently about people bragging about their grades, but you probably aren’t registered and so can’t read it. Sorry ’bout your luck, person that isn’t a member of my most glorious blog. So, that means I have to do yet another posts about why it’s fucking stupid to brag about how much money you make.

First of all, people like yours truly don’t giving a flying monkey’s ass if you make a hundred grand a year or 5 flippin’ dollars a year. Your money has no effect on my bank statement. I can’t spend your money, your money isn’t paying my light bill, and you’re certainly not employing me. I won’t suddenly bow down to kiss your feet because of your huge bank account. Whoop-dee-do. I’m happy that you don’t have to struggle and scrap, but the mere fact that you pass judgments on people that do struggle tells me a whole lot about your character. Namely that you have none. And bragging about your cash roll also proves that you have zero class. Sure, sure, there’s some people that will be in awe of someone in possession of a healthy bottom line and perhaps they will even be intimidated by that person. Shit, they might even be so jealous as to hate you. But that person (in awe and intimidated and full of hate) has zero self-respect and would probably go on Jerry Springer if they were paid $50. Personally, I prefer respect and admiration- from myself for myself. My blessings and happiness don’t have to come with dollar signs attached. Guess what, you’re not impressing anyone but yourself and those that are so goddamned unhappy with themselves that they think they want to be like you. But I don’t want to be like you because you have no class, no character, and hate yourself to the point of crawling on other people to try to make yourself feel better. Is it working? Doesn’t look that way to me. But keep trying. Someday you might be able to tear someone down to the point that you really do have some power over them. Still without class and character.

The only people that really care about how much you make are your mortgage company and the tax man.

I feel that same way about you idiot fuckers and your grades. Honestly, why do you care if I got an “A” in a class? Are you going to be able to claim that “A” for you own transcripts? Is my “A” going to boost your GPA? Get the fuck over it already. And I don’t want to hear about yours, because your grade isn’t going on my transcripts or boost my GPA. That’s just some asinine competitive shit right there. So don’t ask me. I’m not going to tell you. And when you offer to tell me your grade I’m going to roll my eyes and sigh heavily. If your feelings get hurt in the process, too bad so sad. I’m not interested in your grade. OK?

Oh, and I don’t lose any damned sleep worrying over if you have a degree of any kind or if you make tons of money. Look, Millie and I don’t see eye-to-eye a lot, but she’s a classy kind of lady. She makes a little over $300,000 a year, gives 10% of that to her church (I don’t even care that she’s a Christian conservative, can you believe that shit? And me a liberal!), owns a huge house, is a pillar of the community, loves her grand-babies and she didn’t graduate from college. She’s just a lowly realtor who only has to take classes to keep her license. Her husband is even better. He makes $150,000 a year and never even graduated high school. He’s been with the same company for…well, a long time. A-fucking-mazing. Anyway, besides those two examples of no college degree = lots of money, I happen to know a lot of interesting people that don’t have degrees and they’re worth knowing. And some with degrees that write blogs that I’d love to meet. Look at Glenn Greenwald, he’s articulate, well-researched and doesn’t even have to cuss to get his point across. Shoot, that’s impressive in its own right (not to mention he got a book deal). On the flip side of that, there are those people who have a degree of some sort and…well, quite frankly, they’re a little sad. I’m tearing up just thinking about it. Damned shame those ones.

Amen, girlfriend! I was taught that it’s horribly low-class to brag about your income, home value, material stuff, etc., and that has been proven true over and over again. “Old money” people don’t do this, and the people who do brag are insecure. They often don’t have much else going for them, so they yap about their money. It’s pathetic. But good for a larf! ;)

Actually, Teacake, I’m jealous of your shoes. Strapping cardboard to the bottom of my feet really sucks.

Use old tires. Take it from me:

It lasts longer and you get better traction.

But old tires have those little wires in them. Those always give me little blisters. In the winter I use old Rubbermaid lids. But, alas, the concrete ate those up.
