The first day of school went ok, I think. My first class was Introduction to Website Tech. Guess what we started talking about? HTML. Mwahahaha!!! Seems that I’m actually the only one in my class who’s ever learned HTML. And I’m the only one with a website. What the hell is up with that shit? Anyway, my instructor’s knowledge is a little outdated and he was giving info that would cause a web page to break in modern browsers. So, I had to correct him. I mean, I’m not expert by ANY means, but the new standards set by W3C are that the bold tag is deprecated and we’re to use strong instead and that all tags must be in lower case and you can’t combine lower and uppercase letters in the tags. That sort of thing. Anyway, it was all stuff I already know. I can’t wait until we get to the Javascript because I don’t know the first thing about that and really need to learn it.
My math class wasn’t horrible either. My instructor is really interesting and really seems to understand that most of us in that class have a hard time absorbing the numbers. He tutors an hour before and an hour after class (but, dayum, that’s just too late for me). That’s good too because most of the profs down there aren’t available after hours. So, he really explained some stuff right. I did tell him that I was thinking of a concept completely opposite than he was. He was multiplying to get whatever it was, but I looked at the number and was dividing. I had a hard time explaining that to him. But he seemed to finally get it and tried to implement that into the lecture. So that was nice.
Overall I had a decent first day. Tomorrow I have General psychology, which is really interesting. How do I know it was interesting if I haven’t had the class yet? Oh, back years ago in my first college run I took the class and got high marks. Of course, I was a lot smarted back in the day and I didn’t have the fucking episodes but that is not the point. I’m looking forward to that class. For real, yo.
I’m also aware that Abu Gonzales resigned today. I actually read about this morning when I was finishing up my clean install (did I mention that? No? It was a huge pain in the ass, but my PC LOVES me for it). I was going to write about it, but have decided to wait until tomorrow. Right now my brain is shutting down and I must refrain from actual serious thinking.
And I’m out.
Peace, love and lollipops!

Good luck with that. Learning like stuff and stuff makes us all you know gooder than we is.
Uh-oh! Be careful correcting the teacher. My little girl’s fourth grade teacher told the kids to let her know whenever she misspelled a word on the blackboard. I guess she didn’t realize how many words she can’t spell! Finally she got annoyed and asked my daughter to stop telling her.
I start with Analytic Writing tonight and then my Early music Appreciation (Greeks to Classical) starts early Saturday morning. I still have to buy books.
Mr. Grapes, is that sarcasm I sense?
I like school. It’s fun. And now that my speech class is out of the way I don’t think I will have anymore nervous breakdowns. Until it’s time for my trig course. But that won’t be for a couple of years. And don’t worry, I’m taking College writing next semester. I’m sure to improve then.
I talked to him after class. I had him last semester for Personal Productivity software, so he knows I’m not a know-it-all.
I mean, I was having issues getting files mailed to him. Oops. Anyway, I promise to keep my lips sealed next Monday. I just hate to think the noobs are going to have the wrong info. But then, I don’t think any of them are going to run out and start a website, so I guess it’s all good.
Still, we pay $750 dollars for this class, plus $100 for the book, I think our instructor should be aware of the new web standards. You know?
You’re in school? That’s the bomb-diggity! Did you tell me this before? I’m sorry if you did, but I seem to have forgotten. Anyway, what’s your major? I have to take an analytical writing course, but probably not until next fall or the following spring.
I recommend buying your books from textbookx.com. We used to get TheMan’s books from there. They take a few days to ship but they’re probably a third of the cost of what the university charges.
Didn’t know that stuff about HTML coding, but the last course I took on it was about 6 years ago and I don’t do too much coding on a day to day basis. Good to know, though.
Sounds like school’s off to a good start. Kick ass and take names.
I’ve been in school for awhile now, but I haven’t talked about it recently because I’ve been out for the summer. I was a Networking Tech major, but that program was eliminated about the same time I started having second thoughts about it (since I was already making more than the average graduate of that program) so I switched to the Liberal Arts AA program. So in a year or so I’ll be a Liberal Artist! Then I plan to go on to a Technical Writing program elsewhere.
I surf a lot of web design forums and read some designer blogs, so I see all the talk about the new/old standards. That’s the only reason I know. Also when I want to find a character that I don’t use a lot I go to w3schools.com and look. They have lists of depreciated tags and what’s replaced them.
I love to learn. Anything, really. As long as my brain’s functioning I can learn something every day. And that works. Shoot, I’m thinking I might even become friends with math after this class. Maybe even BFFs.
Well, I’m glad I’m not the only non-traditional student in our corner of blogovia. I was going for my Associates of Applied Business in Computer Tech but they’ve changed it this semester and are allowing Computer Tech students to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science. So, I switched programs. Now I have to take all the networking stuff as well as the internet/multimedia stuff. I got all kinds of happy when I found that out (before I had to pick a concentration and couldn’t take certain classes).
I was going to do something like that in one of my previous stints in college. I was going to major in English. But then life intervened and I discovered my love for code so now I’m not. What are your plans afterward, if you don’t mind me asking? Going to be a highly paid pundit?
