I saw a quote today that made my eyes bleed.
You know the Day the Blogosphere Died? It was when it decided to defend NBC’s sexism and misogyny in order to score points against Hillary Clinton. There was a time when the Netroots agreed with me that we needed Fighting Dems, that Obama was not measuring up on that score. But the Obama Cult has taken over in its entirety. . . The Netroots are dead.
The Netroots are dead because not everyone is getting behind Hillary? Let’s not forget that Senator Clinton not only supported the fiasco in Iraq, but also refuses to acknowledge the right of gay/lesbian couples to marry1. She recklessly held out voting against more money to Iraq until she was sure which side was going to win (Obama did it, too) and has consistently shown herself to be part of everything that’s wrong with Washington. But, because she’s a woman, she’s losing only because of her breasts? Liberals are against her because she is the worse of the two. She is undependable and untrustworthy. Will she end the war? Not if it’s not in her best interests. Will she back equality for all? No, because it’s distasteful for her to openly stand for everyone’s right to be legally married. Will she really do anything about the current health care crisis? Give me a break. She’s had years to work on that, but for the last 7 years she’s handed money to King George to do with what he wanted.
No, in my opinion, the Netroots ended when Kucinich was chucked under the bus because he was “unelectable”. Kucinich, though monkey-ugly, stood up for his principles and never floundered to looke “electable”. He wanted what was best for the citizenry as a whole, not just the oil-controlling corporations. If the Netroots really, truly wanted change in this country, they certainly missed their opportunity. Sure, they wanted to prove that they love Blacks and women. So, they chose between Clinton and Obama: Kucinich obviously being a white male didn’t fit good enough for them. But they ignore the history of the two minorities running. It doesn’t matter the skin color or the gender of the candidate. It matters where they stand on the issues. I was under the impression, at one time, that the Netroots stood for equality and an end to this “war”.
I, obviously, was wrong.
Now, the group is separating and pairing off against each other to see which side is the most “tolerant”. That’s fine. Except both sides are backing the same person in different clothing. They missed their chance with this one. At least a chance to be taken seriously by those of use who really care about the issues. We’re at a point where we have to chose between two stink laden candidates, or defect to the other side. Or, of course, just write in Dennis, who won’t accept if he were to win because he’s following the flippin’ policies of the P.O.S. party. Gah!
How strong is my dislike for Hillary Clinton? If she wins the nomination, there is no way I’m voting for her. I don’t care who the other side picks. I look at Sen. Clinton as just another cog in the wheel that’s taking this country straight down the toilet. I can’t wait to have a woman president, but she’s not the woman I want representing me. If she’d have honestly stuck by her words and shown herself to be truthful, I might be singing a different tune. But she’s a liar. Not because of her womanhood, but because of her history of siding with The King. She’s no better, in my eyes, than any of the other Blue Dog Dems- which aren’t any better than the Bush Republicans.
I might, though, be persuaded to vote Obama. If Mickey Mouse isn’t available for the job.

First, I don’t see why we’d define the Blogosphere in terms of politics, so I think that quote is just silly hyperbole. It died when we found out that Belle Du Jour was a man!!! OH NOES! All my trust in anonnymouse online storytellers haz been ruined 4ever.
Second, I can’t stand Hillary or Obama, but I did vote for her and would in the general if she gets the nom (which it looks like she won’t). Why? Cuz my feeling is I’d really be voting for Bill again, which, all things considered, wouldn’t be that bad. Obama’s just a scary unknown. A great speaker, sure, but what does he actually say? Nothing much. Hope! Change! Warm fuzzies! McCain is terrifying. He looks like a doddering old grandpa who can’t remember where he parked.
I don’t know what I’ll do in November. I’m thinking of writing in Al Gore!
I feel ya. However, many in the political blogosphere (left and right) seem to think that the only blogosphere is the political one. Bah! Same thing with those marketers. No one could possibly be blogging for any other reason, right? Some folks need to get out and about more often. They might see things mighty differently.
Also, I have no idea who Belle Du Jour is. Why, oh why, must you make me research. Hmmph.
By the way, Hillary gives me the creeps. I may have been slightly swayed if I didn’t know her sneaky voting history and/or seen two of her debates. It’s called answering the question, Senator Clinton, the question posed that is.
That woman really lacks the charm of my main man Bill, but it’s more than that. She’s sneaky. Sneaky is ok, as long as it’s not obvious (I’m a huge hypocrite, ok?). I don’t like Obama either. I would much rather vote for Dennis (who I still stand behind 110%) but I can’t. What to do then?
Hold my nose and vote for the least likely to cause me to cry. It’s better than not voting, which I do not consider an option.
Well, I spelled it wrong, so I hope that didn’t mess you up. It’s DE Jour, even though the correct spelling of the phrase is “du jour.” Whatev.
I guess I won’t not vote, but I’m feeling less strongly about that concept than usual. For sure I’ll want to vote on other stuff on the ballot.
I really think that if we wanted to fix alot of the things that are messed up we should have gave Ron Paul more of a chance… obviously he is a Republican so not everyone could have helped with this, but to me he sounded like he actually believed in personal freedom.
I don’t feel as strongly as you do about Hillary, but I must say I’ve been disappointed in her. Every speach I hear she talks about all the things she’s done and what I really hear is that Bill Clinton did all these things and she was along for the ride. I’ll freely admit I voted for her for Senator from NY. And I think she’s been pretty good for NYS. However, something about her rubs me the wrong way as President. It has nothing to do with her being a woman.
That being said, I’m also not fond of Obama. He’s all flash and no substance. Say what you want, you need some sort of clout to get things done in Washington. And he doesn’t have it. And as you said, they’re basically the same candidate with slightly different veiws on a couple of issues.
Again I think we’ll be faced with a chocie of bad and worse for President. Assuming John McCain gets the Republican nomination, I don’t think he’s any better. I respect his military service and his leadership, but I don’t trust Republicans as far as I can throw them. I think if he becomes President we’re in for more of the same.
We are so screwed.
Ookami,
Not for me, thanks. I’m still wishing Dennis Kucinich was running. Go, Dennis! Sadly, we’re both S.O.L.

I don’t care about Hillary’s gender either. She was rubbing me wrong from the first time she went nasty on her competition. Everyone seemed almost civil until she went all offensive. Now she’s accusing Obama of plagiarism, except he was given permission by the original speech writer to use that part of his speech (something to do with “Are those just words”… I so don’t even care). Her campaign guy said he knew that Obama was granted permission, but he shouldn’t have used the line if he didn’t write it himself. HUH? Which candidate actually writes their own stuff.
To go even further, there’s a rumor going around that Hillary has decided to pressure the superdelegates to get the nomination- instead of actually, you know, convincing the voters.
Of course, I had no idea about these superdelegates until I read about them. Now my whole love affair with voting because it’s my right just got flushed down the toilet. It doesn’t matter how we vote at all! If Hillary can convince the superdelegates that she’s the one for the nomination, then all the popular votes in the world won’t help Barack.
How fucking depressing.
