Miz UV,
Here's the thing- the people that are screaming the most are those that in other circumstances scream about that sort of thing. This is really directed at them. They moan about Bush Republicans doing the association game and then turn around and do that to our own folks. Pitiful. It really pisses me off.

Lucy,
Because that's what will piss people off the most. And it's working, of course.

Ha Ha (from POLY.EDU),
I realize that you wanted that to be a private communication (I assume that's why you sent the email instead of posting it as a comment), but I thought you should be proud enough to let the whole world laugh at the hilarity of your message. Two things and then I'm done with you:

I would be much, much more outraged were you to lose the "lol" and the "ROFL". Seriously, chick, what's up with that? Nothing better?

I'm curious as to why it took you almost a half an hour to come up with that lame shit. Was it your own outrage or your cowardice that was making it hard to decide to send that message? Next time, just leave the comment and be gone. Really, it obvious why you came. Just have some balls and do it publicly. Well, if you don't, then I'm going to post it anyway. So what's the difference? LOL!!one1! ROFLMAOAIFTWNETD!!1!

I havent actually read the full text of what he said but the part that keeps cropping up is the bit where he apparently said "God bless America? No, God Damn America". That seems to be the bit that i hear most often repeated in order to bash him over the head.

Well, I do use the company-they-keep as ONE factor by which to judge peeps, and it does bother me that Obama sat through those sermons for 20 years, even if he says now he was ready to quit if Wright hadn't retired. But other things bother me more than that -- Hillary is now desperately lying and just being a total slime, so I've gone from thinking maybe she'd be okay to hoping she doesn't get the nom after all; and McCain is just a big fuckhead with his more war/less taxes bullshit, no health care reform, more anti-choice judges, etc. So even though I haven't liked Obama much, I'll probably end up voting for him anyway.

We are re-living the 50s and this is the unrepentant rebirth of full-bore McCarthyism with its guilt by association and fear mongering of conspiracies from within. What Wright did was draw negative attention to simmering issues that cast the country in a bad light. I watched an ABC news segment where they termed "controversial" his statements that blacks still face racism, are disproportionately jailed and in poverty, and suffered unequal treatment in the aftermath of Katrina. I didn't know any of those things were even really disputed ... seem pretty factual to me.
