Down-home and Folksy
May 6, 2008
By now you know that I get a big portion of my news from Jon Stewart1 and “The Daily Show”. I’m not ashamed. Shoot, TDS is way more truthful than, well, any other network news agency. And if I’m going to listen to nonsensical political commentary I want it to be funny and I want it to come from Jon Stewart.
Last night was especially funny. They had a segment talking about the pandering done by the presidential candidates. Nothing shocking, except for, well, Hilary’s down-home, Hoosier accent. Where the hell did that come from? C’mon now!
Anyway, here’s the bit to which I’m referring. Pay attention to the time because at 2:08 Senator Hilary Clinton of the (now) New York Clintons suddenly develops this unsavory and downright comical accent. Jon wants to know, and so do I, where did the accent come from? And why is Clinton standing in the back of a pickup.
Please watch the whole thing (unless you did last night).
I simply cannot believe that her advisers are telling her to do this kind of crap. Obviously the non-Elite2 Clinton isn’t pandering. No. She’s just reverting back to herself. And look! Obama’s playing basketball. Well, there ya go.

I just so sick of the two of them. This campaign is just getting ridiculous now.

LOL. I like “We get it, Malcolm X” after “you gonna build a yacht club with those bricks?”
I remember driving around Wellsley in one a these guzzlin’ boxed wine blastin’ Emily Dickinson on the radio!

Oh, the things I could tell him about Guam! (This part sort of ticked me off, since I lived there for almost 4 years. That was the first time I heard it referred to as “turd shaped!” LOL. ) But I digress.
Accent? It’s barely noticeable. I think it was more like, she slowed down her speech so those hicks could understand her. (I get to say this, since I also lived in Indiana and my folks are Hoosiers!)

Thanks for that. I never get to see TDS any more and I really miss it. What’s so wrong with getting your news from Jon Stewart? You’re right — his show is one of the “truthiest” ways of gathering news (yes I know that’s from Colbert — close enough).
